Round 23

Cliff Smith (Ballwin, MO) had a monster win this round against Mark Garrod (East Lansing, MI), 405-292. I see Cliff's INANEST and DENAriUS. I said, "hey, nice word knowledge for your first NSC." And Cliff said, " DENARII is a type 1 bingo on the Mike Baron lists." Watch out Mike Baron (Corrales, NM), they are all coming for you and will be in division 1 next year! Mark, clearly having bad tiles, made a nice dump of LINGUAE from the L. LWEI was also on their board.

Nola Hembrook (Marshfield, WI) defeated Stephen Henney (Canton, MI) this round, 436-403. I see RELINED, REUSInG, and NESTLEd on their board and JUNCO, QUIPU, and VIREO.

The only youth player here this year that is a girl is Eliza Lieberman (Charlotte, NC). She sure stood out in the group photo taken earlier today!

I am told the website ran out of disk quota, so John Chew is working on making more and the photos should be up soon.

Dan Stock managed to work VUVUZELA, JEPARDY, and ORANGE into today's tableau!

Jackson Smylie (Toronto ON) fell to Gunther Jacobi (Portland, OR) this round, 334-422. Board has been picked up, but I'm told Gunther played eXTORTS and tWIGGED and Jackson got down SIZY/FETAS for 50.

Sandy Nang (Malibu, CA) had a 601 game against Andrew Golding (Verdun QC) this round. He admits he just missed seeing her outbingo. She had to run to her game with Mark Kenas (Madison, WI) this round, so no further news.

For you Collins fans, John Chew & Craig Beavers are hosting the Inaugural Prague SCRABBLE Festival (in conjunction with the Prague Mind Festival) 1-4 December 2012. A guaranteed 10,000 euro 1st place prize. In case you want to attend, check out http://www.praguemindsportsfestival.com/festival-schedules/scrabble/.

Just as round 24 was starting, the tournament director was called over to division 3 and it was discovered that two blanks were not put into the tilebag as they should have been when the board was cleared off to start the game. The player was questioned and admitted to taking them. Dallas Johnson then ejected (a now ejected player) from the tournament. His opponents at this event will be retroactively given forfeit wins.
